Sexual identity and Orientation Empty Sexual identity and Orientation

Post by BillFrase Fri Oct 28, 2022 11:24 am

I am pasting some of my thoughts about sexual orientation and identity in response to the following question I received:

Are there any new higher truths on homosexuality coming from Jesus. Is it an unforgivable sin.(sic) My sister's son is one and she struggles with her faith because of what the bible indicates. Any light you can shed on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

There is no such thing as an unforgivable sin, given the unconditional nature of God's Divine Love. It's so sad that people still believe that God would refuse to forgive/heal any error for anyone who desires healing.

Let me be clear: In my humble perspective, there is no relationship between sexual identity or sexual orientation and sin.

There are excellent messages from Judas on this subject:

For those who take the Bible seriously, they might consider Paul's comments that suggest that there is nothing that is greater than the power of God's Love:

37 No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us. 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.( Romans 8:37-39 NIV)

Even if sexual orientations and identities different from the heterosexual were a sin, according to Paul’s words, nothing can come between the soul’s desire for God’s Love which is the ultimate spiritual cleansing and transforming agent.

It seems to me that "nor anything else in all creation" includes all forms of sexual expression and identity.

If love is absent, corrupted or distorted within any form of human expression(including heterosexual expression), that constitutes error. The power of God's Love overcomes all forms of error for those who seek the gift.

My sense is that one can replace the words circumcision and uncircumcision below with heterosexuality and gayness to get a sense of how Paul might have viewed gay people.

6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision (heterosexuality or gayness) nor uncircumcision (heterosexuality or gayness, respectively) has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. (Galatians 5:6 NIV)

I’ll suggest alternative words in parentheses below to give my sense of how Paul might have viewed the question under consideration using another Bible passage:

17 Nevertheless, each person should live as a believer in whatever situation the Lord has assigned to them, just as God has called them. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 18 Was a man already circumcised (gay or heterosexual) when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised (gay or heterosexual, respectively). Was a man uncircumcised (gay or heterosexual) when he was called? He should not be circumcised (gay or heterosexual, respectively). 19 Circumcision (gayness or heterosexuality) is nothing and uncircumcision (gayness or heterosexuality) is nothing. Keeping God’s commands (the ultimate command being to love as God loves) is what counts. 20 Each person should remain in the situation they were in when God called them (gay or heterosexual).21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don’t let it trouble you—although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For the one who was a slave when called to faith in the Lord is the Lord’s freed person; similarly, the one who was free when called is Christ’s slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of human beings. 24 Brothers and sisters, each person, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation (gay or heterosexual) they were in when God called them. (1 Corinthians 7:17-24 NIV)

I'm confident that God's primary concern is love which is a matter of the soul, not of the flesh.

    💛

    Bill
